Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
There’s a different way to frame the question of whether this is a good trade for the Utah Jazz.
In the Rudy Gobert trade, the Jazz received the three players in addition to four first-round picks and a pick swap. It’s widely agreed upon that the team got good value in exchange for the 3x Defensive Player of the Year.
Now, suppose the trade had instead been Turner, Vanderbilt, Beverely, Beasley, three first-round picks and a swap in exchange for Gobert. Is that a better deal?
If they’re keeping Donovan Mitchell, the answer is a resounding yes. With their newfound depth, the Jazz could have improved their present and their future with this series of trades.

Meanwhile, they still have plenty of leftover draft capital from the Gobert deal to broker another big trade if they see an opportunity.
Assuming that Mitchell says, this is a no-brainer for the Utah Jazz. Is it something the Indiana Pacers should entertain?
