This trade isn’t one meant to take place in the summer. It wouldn’t be legal now anyway with Bradley Beal signing his contact extension. Some will deem it unrealistic. After all, the Orlando Magic are far more likely to hang onto their draft capital and press forward with their rebuild.
With that said, if you had access to a time-traveling machine, you’d be able to find people who’d question the Magic’s deal for the opposite reason. They’d be wondering why they’d blow up what must be, by 2021-22, a contending core.
After all, Markelle Fultz was the number one overall pick in a draft that included Jayson Tatum. He’s a good NBA player, and at 24, he still has room to improve. Still, he was supposed to be a superstar.
In the eyes of some, so was Jonathan Isaac. When healthy, he’s a one-man defensive system who can protect the rim and lock down the perimeter at a high level. Unfortunately, he’s seldom healthy.

All of which goes to show the volatility of draft picks. You never can be 100% sure what you’re going to get from a prospect. Could that be enough to convince the Magic to make this trade?
