Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Myles Turner, G T.J. McConnell

The Charlotte Hornets are desperate to upgrade the center position this offseason. They have been linked to virtually every big man that was mentioned to be on the trade block and some free agents, but they have yet to find a deal to make. In this hypothetical deal, they finally address that need.

Myles Turner is an excellent addition for a Hornets team that needs to improve defensively if they want to have any real chance of taking that next step. They have some elite offensive weapons but are lacking on the other end of the court.

Turner would provide them with an anchor and elite rim protector behind some sometimes shaky perimeter defense. His presence as the last line of defense would help keep things in order.

T.J. McConnell is also one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. He would slide in nicely behind LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier in the backcourt with his level of playmaking and is also a solid defender.

The package to acquire those two players provides Indiana with some salary relief as Kelly Oubre Jr. is on an expiring deal. P.J. Washington could fit their timeline as he enters the last season of his rookie deal. Blocked now by Turner after getting little playing time as a rookie, Kai Jones could carve out a role in the Indiana frontcourt.

The most important piece of their deal for the Pacers is the 2023 first-round pick via the Denver Nuggets. That will likely be in the mid-20s, but first-round picks of any kind always have value to a rebuilding team.
