Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

Out of all the deals, the Brooklyn Nets could realistically entertain this summer, this one might be the riskiest. On the other hand, it almost certainly gives them the highest potential reward.

Packages centered around Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, and draft capital are currently in vogue. That would be a solid return, but assuming good health moving forward, there is no world where either of those players approaches Williamson’s productivity.

The Raptors are seen as another suitor for Durant. They’ve got a number of intriguing packages they could offer. If they’re willing to part with Scottie Barnes, that’s something for the Nets to think long and hard about.

He still probably doesn’t have Williamson’s ceiling as an offensive force. Very few players in the NBA do. If the Nets are willing to gamble that Williamson’s proneness to injury won’t be a career-long trend, this deal could revolutionize their future.
