The LA Clippers are like the wealthy father-in-law you’ll never impress. They don’t have any needs, but they’ve got a handful of wants.

The question is, what do they want most? Another point guard, or another defensive-minded wing? This trade works for them depending on the answer.

On the one hand, this LA Clippers team was quick to scoop John Wall off of the buyout market once his agreement with the Rockets was terminated. They may be hoping that a platoon of Wall and Reggie Jackson will be enough for them at the 1 next season.

On the other hand, they also acquired Robert Covington at last year’s deadline. He makes Batum expendable. Furthermore, we haven’t seen Wall in action for quite some time. It’s unclear exactly what he’ll contribute to the LA Clippers next season.
