When it was announced that former NBA MVP Kevin Durant had requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, mock trades began being built. People were guessing where Durant could end up, but he is far from the only Net that could be on the move.

Kyrie Irving could very well have played his final game in a Nets uniform as well. While it was presumed that the market for him was cold, which is why he opted into his contract in the first place, there is at least one team that wanted to acquire him; the Los Angeles Lakers.

Desperate to make a trade and upgrade the roster, the Lakers are turning over every rock to find talent. They have done a better than anticipated job with their limited funds in free agency, signing Lonnie Walker IV with their mid-level exception while also adding Damian Jones, Troy Brown Jr., and Juan Toscano-Anderson.

But, if they are going to make a sizable splash, it will be via trade. A swap centered around Russell Westbrook and Irving has been discussed, as Seth Curry, Joe Harris, and Talen Horton-Tucker have also been mentioned as potentially being part of the deal.

However, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, there is zero traction in a trade for the Lakers to land Irving. He isn’t sure that trade will take place at any point.

While a trade with the Lakers doesn’t seem to be on the table right now, other teams could get involved. While making an appearance on Bally Sports on July 1st, Charania shared that the Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers are potential landing spots for Irving.

The Mavericks could certainly use some help in the backcourt since Jalen Brunson left in free agency, signing with the New York Knicks. Brooklyn would likely take whatever they could get for Irving, but the package that Dallas has to offer is underwhelming based on talks they have had with the Cleveland Cavaliers for Collin Sexton.

Philadelphia would be an intriguing landing spot, as they already acquired James Harden from the Nets during the season. Pairing Irving back up with Harden seems like a poor decision given how things transpired during the season in Brooklyn.

Ultimately, a decision on a Kyrie Irving trade will have to wait. The Brooklyn Nets will focus on Kevin Durant trade discussions first before figuring out what to do with the rest of the roster.
