Brooklyn Nets To Sign TJ Warren Amid Kevin Durant Trade Talk

TJ Warren, Brooklyn Nets, NBA Rumors

The Brooklyn Nets are going to look a lot different next season than when they were swept out of the first round of the 2022 NBA Postseason by the Boston Celtics. Superstar Kevin Durant has requested a trade from the team, which will shift the landscape of the league as a whole.

Wherever he ends up, that team will become contenders and Brooklyn is looking for a package of All-Star caliber players and multiple draft picks.

In addition to Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving has likely played his last game with the organization. They also lost Bruce Brown in free agency to the Denver Nuggets. Andre Drummond and Goran Dragic are both heading to the Chicago Bulls as well.

While the Durant trade has held things up, the Nets have continued reshaping their roster. Minutes after the request was made, Brooklyn acquired Royce O’Neale from the Utah Jazz for a 2023 first-round pick. They continued reshaping their forward rotation today, agreeing to a one-year deal with TJ Warren.

The last time we saw Warren was in the Orlando Bubble in 2020 when he was lighting up the scoreboard. The Indiana Pacers were very excited about what would come after that as he announced his presence as an emerging two-way wing. Unfortunately, he suffered a foot injury that derailed his career.

Warren was one of the more intriguing free agents this summer that many people presumed contenders would pursue. We haven’t seen much of him in the last two seasons as he has missed all but four games, making him a low-risk high-reward kind of signing this summer.

Brooklyn is going to need some scoring punch with Durant likely on the way out and Warren can help provide that. He has made some major strides with his 3-point shooting, turning into a well-rounded, dangerous scorer. His defense is also improving, as he is becoming a solid player on both ends of the court.

With the Brooklyn Nets, TJ Warren should have a prominent role in the rotation regardless of the package they get in return for their All-Star duo. Now in his prime, as he will be 29 when the season kicks off, the Nets could be getting the best version of Warren that we have seen as long as he stays healthy.
