Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Gordon Hayward, G Terry Rozier
Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Kyrie Irving
Generally, deals that have linked the Charlotte Hornets to Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2027 first-round pick have partially used Miles Bridges’ pending restricted free agency to justify the decision.
We don’t want to get into the details but suffice it to say, a horrifying event has determined that he won’t be a factor in their decision-making anymore.
The Hornets could still stand to clear Hayward and Rozier’s contracts. With Bridges presumably (and hopefully) out of the picture, this team is likely rebuilding. Expensive veterans shouldn’t be on their agenda unless they’re on expiring contracts. Russell Westbrook happens to be on one.
Meanwhile, the Nets receive two quality, starting-caliber players in return for Irving here. Again, those expecting a superstar in return for the potentially problematic Irving are likely to find themselves disappointed. They’d be lucky to land Hayward and Rozier in exchange.

Finally, the Los Angeles Lakers’ motive here is obvious. They’re trading a star point guard who can’t play with LeBron James for one they know can. The last time James and Irving were teammates, they were mainstays in the NBA Finals.
