Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
There’s an unwritten law in the NBA. If any trade brings in Kevin Durant, you have to at least entertain it. We don’t make the rules.
To say the Raptors are getting the best player in this deal would be a massive understatement. In all likelihood, the Nets would try to insist on Pascal Siakam to level the playing field. In that event, the Raptors should pass.
After all, trading for Durant without a co-star in place would be pointless. As incredible as he is, he’s unlikely to lead the Raptors to contention with Gary Trent Jr. as his best running mate.
The whole point here, from the Raptors’ perspective, would be to pair Durant and Siakam. The two would make for a devastating combo. Siakam would function as the primary facilitator, while Durant would be the team’s alpha scorer.
