Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, 2023 First-Round Pick (PHI via BKN)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Clint Capela, F/C John Collins
Of all the packages listed in his piece, this one certainly has the most inspiring return for the Brooklyn Nets.
Of course, this deal would effectively mean that, in a roundabout way, the Nets traded James Harden for Clint Capela, John Collins, and one first-round pick. That doesn’t feel like great value.
Nevermind that. Harden is already gone. The Nets can’t afford to be the victims of a sunk-cost fallacy. Having completed this deal, they’ll confidently enter the 2022-23 seasons with one of the best rosters in the entire NBA.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks incur a risk in acquiring Simmons. His physical and mental ability to withstand an entire NBA season has come into question lately. That’s why they’re getting a first-round pick here.
