3 Ideal Free Agency Landing Spots For Mo Bamba

Mo Bamba, Orlando Magic, NBA Trade Rumors

Orlando Magic center Mo Bamba picked a great time to have the best season of his young career. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft struggled to get opportunities the first few seasons he was in the league, but everything came together during the 2021-22 season.

Now that Nikola Vucevic was off the roster, traded to the Chicago Bulls at the deadline, Bamba played in a career-high 71 games, starting 69 of them. He made the most of the opportunity, averaging 10.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.7 blocks in 25.7 minutes per game.

All of those stats were career-highs, giving Bamba some negotiating power as he headed toward what he thought would be restricted free agency. However, it is being reported that the Magic are unlikely to extend Bamba a qualifying offer, meaning he will instead be an unrestricted free agent.

The qualifying offer is worth $10.1 million, which isn’t too steep of a price for a player with the skill set of Bamba, who is only scratching the surface of his potential. There is still some interest in retaining Bamba and the sides will continue negotiating, but they will not have the safety net of being able to match any offer sheet that he signs.

While Bamba wants to remain in Orlando, it may not be feasible. Jonathan Isaac and Wendell Carter Jr. are both in the midst of extensions. The No. 1 overall pick was also used on forward Paolo Banchero, further clouding the frontcourt rotation.

With there being a real chance that Bamba can walk in free agency, a few teams should be making aggressive pitches to him. Here are three ideal landing spots for the former Longhorn in free agency.
