New York Knicks Receive: G Dejounte Murray

Rumors suggest that the San Antonio Spurs’ asking price for Dejounte Murray starts with four unprotected first-round picks. Sure. Similarly, the author of this article’s asking price for the piece is one million dollars. We’ll see if I get it.

Murray is a tremendous young player, but one season’s worth of data isn’t enough to convince any team to mortgage that much of their future. Especially when considering there are limitations to what an offense can achieve with him as an initiator given he isn’t much of a perimeter shot creator.

On the other hand, a team with a glaring need for a point guard and a surplus of draft capital may be tempted to forfeit one less pick. He is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA and is capable of getting into the paint and making plays.

The Knicks check both of those boxes. They’ve got picks to spare moving forward, and a massive hole at Murray’s position. If they’re looking to win in 2022-23, this could be an appealing deal for them.
