Pacers Not Actively Shopping Myles Turner Amid Contract Talks

Myles Turner, Indiana Pacers, NBA Trade Rumors

There have been a lot of players mentioned on the trade block this offseason. While there weren’t as many deals completed during the 2022 NBA Draft as people thought there would be, that very well could have been the calm before the storm.

With free agency nearly upon us, there is going to be a lot more chatter about trade rumors in the coming days and weeks. Teams are trying to position themselves in the best way to acquire talent and upgrade their roster.

One of the players that have been mentioned most often is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers. There are several teams around the league in the market for a center and Turner has been on the trade block for a few years now. Had he not gotten injured during the 2021-22 season, he very well could have been traded already.

But, those trade talks could slow down in the near future. While making an appearance on 1075 The Fan on Kevin and Query, Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan revealed that the team is not actively shopping Turner.

Buchanan also noted that the team would love to have Myles Turner in the fold long-term. They want to see what he can do with new point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who he has not yet played with because of the foot injury he suffered.

But, some of that is in Turner’s hands, as Buchanan stated. The team will see where things go and adjust accordingly.

This is something that will surprise a lot of people. Playing out this season on an expiring contract, the Indiana Pacers have an incentive to trade Turner unless they are confident that they can work out an extension for him.

While Indiana may not be shopping Turner right now, that could very well change in the coming weeks depending on how contract extension talks go. If Turner truly wants to play out his deal, the Pacers may be better off trading him for some assets now instead of taking their chances in free agency.

Allowing Myles Turner to walk for nothing in 2023 would be the worst-case scenario for the organization. They should do their best to at least acquire something for him, even if it is future first-round picks as the rebuilding Indiana Pacers need all the assets that they can get.
