Charlotte Hornets Receive: C Rudy Gobert
Miami Heat Receive: F Miles Bridges, G/F Cody Martin
Utah Jazz Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Tyler Herro
With the 15th pick in the 2022 draft, the Charlotte Hornets selected Duke big man Mark Williams. Assume that they’ve completed their search for a point guard this summer at your own peril.
Granted, it’s possible. If the Hornets see enough long-term potential in Williams, they could be satisfied with their projected rotation at that position next season. On the other hand, if they wanted to add an impact veteran, they won’t do better than Gobert.
After all, the 3x Defensive Player of the Year is the best rim protector in basketball. The Jazz may not be willing to part with him if not for the apparent tension between him and Mitchell.
Still, with some further roster tinkering, this deal could help Utah as well. It does give them the most dynamic backcourt they’ve had in a long time.

Whether this helps the Heat is another subject. They are adding the explosively athletic Bridges, who had a breakout season in 2021-22. Furthermore, Cody Martin is a strong 3-and-D wing, and as a bonus, they’d be reuniting him with his brother Caleb.
Somehow, we doubt that’ll be the reason the Heat pull the trigger here. That would be the acquisition of Bridges. If that’s not enough for them, these two sides may need to seek another third team to complete a deal.
