Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: F Talen Horton-Tucker, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers receive: C Derrick Favors, F Kenrich Williams, G Luguentz Dort

Once again, the Los Angeles Lakers move Talen Horton-Tucker for a package including some helpful veterans and an impactful 3-and-D wing or two.

Granted, neither Luguentz Dort nor Kenrich Williams is necessarily elite in the “3” department. For what it’s worth, Williams shot 44.4% on limited volume in 2020-21, before plummeting to 33.9% last season.

Still, they’re both high-end perimeter defenders. In particular, Dort is one of the league’s best point-of-attack defenders. Furthermore, three-point shooting is known for its high variance.

Williams could return to his 2020-21 form, or Dort could have a career year from deep, and this trade becomes a steal for the Lakers.

Acquiring Favors doesn’t hurt either. He could function as one of the best backup big men in the league. Alternatively, if Anthony Davis still prefers to play the 4, Favors could start, returning the Lakers to a twin towers look.

In case you’ve forgotten, they once won a championship using that exact strategy.
