How This Trade Impacts New York Knicks
The New York Knicks will have to search every avenue to bring in an upgrade at the point guard position. They desperately need one whether it is via free agency or trade. In this scenario, it is via trade with the Sacramento Kings.
De’Aaron Fox had his struggles last season, but whenever he was on the court without Tyrese Haliburton, he played at a very high level. In 20 games without Haliburton, Fox averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Given the lack of 3-point shooting in his game throughout his career, Fox isn’t the best fit alongside Domantas Sabonis, so it is something that the Knicks could take advantage of.
With Davion Mitchell already in the fold, the Kings at least have a point guard to turn to and RJ Barrett would give them the wing player they have lacked for as long as the Knicks haven’t had a point guard.

Many Knicks fans will balk at the idea of trading RJ Barrett away, especially for a player in Fox that has yet to make an All-Star team. But, Fox would be the best point guard that New York has seen in a long time and has produced at a level that Barrett has yet to reach.
When comparing age-21 seasons, Fox outperformed Barrett across the board. However, Barrett has the prototypical build for a two-way wing that teams want to build around. Fans will not want to move on from him, but to acquire talent, you need to give something.

This isn’t the preferred option, but desperate to add a point guard, the Knicks could pull the trigger on a deal like this. They should continue negotiating, however, as the inclusion of Haliburton for Sabonis shocked some people, so maybe the Knicks could acquire Fox without including Barrett, which would be seen as a win by the fan base and organization.
