The San Antonio Spurs are headed for one of their most interesting NBA offseason periods in a while. Last year, the young team proved that they’re closer to being competitive than originally expected.
Despite trying to avoid landing into the playoffs and losing out on their lottery pick, the Spurs still stumbled their way into a Play-In Tournament appearance. Luckily, the New Orleans Pelicans were able to topple San Antonio on their way to clinching the eighth seed.
By way of missing the playoffs, the Spurs were able to draw the ninth-overall pick in the lottery, as well as two other first-rounders through previous trade dealings. Armed with three first-round selections, San Antonio was able to mine some significant talent from the 2022 draft class.
Once the night was said and done, the Spurs had added Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan, Ohio State’s Malaki Branham, and Notre Dame’s Blake Wesley. Despite adding three first-round talents, their draft haul was quite frankly overshadowed by other off-season news.
