Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F Doug McDermott, G Josh Richardson, G Romeo Langford, C Zach Collins
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL), 2024 Second Round Pick (MEM or WAS)
Looking at this hypothetical trade, it’s hard to believe that it feels plausible. Seeing Russell Westbrook’s name attached to a first-round pick in exchange for role players feels wrong. Yet, it’s entirely realistic.
That’s how far the star point guard has fallen from grace. The Lakers will be lucky to retain any value for him this summer. This may not be a dream scenario for the organization.
In all likelihood, dream situations went out the window a long time ago. Teams just don’t want to take on supermax contracts of aging star players coming off a bad season.
The Lakers would surely be ecstatic to add a sharpshooter like Doug McDermott and a 3-and-D wing like Josh Richardson. They’d need to take on less an ideal salaries like Zach Collins and Romeo Langford in order for San Antonio to not use up so much of their cap space taking on Westbrook.

Lakers fans probably have their hopes set higher for a Westbrook trade. At least they land some valuable rotation players in this exchange. It’s better than nothing. That may not be a ringing endorsement, but it holds true.
At this point, better than nothing may be the best they can do. It’s better than nothing!
