Making the Case: Los Angeles Lakers
It’s clear that Russell Westbrook is not a fit for the Los Angeles Lakers. Adding a secondary playmaker to take pressure off of LeBron James was worth the try, but it just didn’t work out.
The Lakers do not have time to waste hoping that Westbrook can turn things around. The sooner they find a viable pathway to move on from him while adding more cohesive pieces, the better the Lakers’ outlook will be next season.
Gordon Hayward is an intriguing option when he’s healthy. When he was with the Boston Celtics, his ability to attack off the catch and within the flow of the half-court offense helped to really tie the unit together well alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Terry Rozier would arguably be the main appeal for the Lakers in this trade. He’s a crafty guard that can is a much more efficient shooter than Westbrook and could be a cleaner all-around fit.

Being able to add both Hayward and Rozier into the fold would make the Lakers a substantially better team. Moving on from Westbrook overall has its benefits, too.
