NBA offseason is in full swing with the draft and free agency all commencing within the next week. That means it is officially rumor mill season. The newest rumor is that All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray has been made available by the San Antonio Spurs.
Murray had a breakout season this past year including averaging 21.1 points, 9.3 assists, and 8.2 rebounds. He also led the NBA in steals per game with 2.0. Murray also passed David Robinson for most career triple-doubles by a Spur. It is not often a 25-year-old All-Star becomes available but that is the case with Murray.
The Atlanta Hawks have seemingly jumped at the idea of adding Murray to their roster and pairing him with Trae Young. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, “San Antonio’s most significant discussions regarding Murray have seemed to occur with the Atlanta Hawks, in a framework that would send Collins back to the Spurs,”
To go along with Collins the Spurs would also want back a “Jrue Holiday-like package” which probably includes three first-round picks. It may sound like a lot but any win-now team should jump at this opportunity.

Teams go into the draft hoping to find a player as good as Murray, so they mine as well go get the known commodity while it’s available. It appears the San Antonio Spurs star is not opposed to a trade as well after seeing his recent tweet,
The Spurs are in rebuild mode but I think the only reason they are looking to move Murray is due to his upcoming contract situation. If they do not expect to re-sign him then it might be worth it for them to get something for him now.
