Sacramento Kings Receive: F/C John Collins, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 16 – ATL)
Atlanta Hawks Receive: C Richaun Holmes, G/F Justin Holiday, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 4 – SAC)
Ignore the veterans the Hawks are receiving here. They’re effectively swapping John Collins for the fourth overall pick in tonight’s draft.
Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be market value for Collins. He’s good, but that’s a hefty price for his services. On the other hand, these Kings aren’t operating under ordinary market rules.
They’re operating with a sense of urgency. The Kings currently hold the longest playoff drought in the NBA. This team is evidently vying to break that streak next season. They need impact players, and they need them now.
Collins qualifies. He’s also a nice pairing with Domantas Sabonis in the frontcourt. He’ll be a great target for Sabonis’ nifty passing, both around the perimeter and as a cutter.

The Kings aren’t getting great value here. What else is new. There’s a reason this team has the league’s longest playoff drought. This deal, fair or not, should help them break it.
