Thus far in the offseason, one of the most active teams when it comes to trade rumors is the Atlanta Hawks. After having to win two games in the NBA Play-In Tournament and getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Miami Heat, they are looking to shake up their roster.
Last year, after advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, the front office decided to run things back. They retained all of their free agents and didn’t add too many outside players as they wanted to continue building on the momentum and chemistry that they had built.
This offseason, that is not the case. They want to infuse some new talent after struggling at times during the 2021-22 season. One of the players that have been mentioned most in trade rumors is John Collins.
Collins signed a five-year, $125 million deal as a restricted free agent last offseason. There have been rumors for a little while now that he could be on his way out of Atlanta and it sounds like it is a matter of when, not if, he is on the move.

One of the teams that have been monitoring Collins’ availability is the Portland Trail Blazers, who have the No. 7 overall pick at their disposal. The Sacramento Kings have also been discussing trade scenarios with the Hawks, but have not included the No. 4 overall pick.
According to The Athletic, there are three more teams that are monitoring the situation with Collins; the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards.

Indiana The Pacers own the No. 6 overall pick, which could be part of the negotiations along with some of their veterans such as Myles Turner and Malcolm Brogdon.
The Brooklyn Nets could need an infusion of talent depending on what happens with the Kyrie Irving situation. Collins would be an excellent fit alongside Irving and Kevin Durant as a versatile, mobile big man that they have been on the lookout for.

The Washington Wizards’ inclusion on this list is interesting because they don’t need another frontcourt player. They are actually in need of a point guard, so using their assets to acquire a power forward/center would certainly be surprising.
