The Portland Trail Blazers have been so hotly rumored to Dyson Daniels because he’d be the absolute perfect rookie for their team.
After tearing their roster to shreds, the only players sure to be on Portland’s roster next season are Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons, and probably Jusuf Nurkic. That means they desperately need to find a wing to tie their starting lineup together, and Daniels might just be the man for the job.
Daniels’s size and defensive prowess would give the Blazers perhaps their best wing defender since Trevor Ariza. His playmaking makes him the best connector they’ve had on the flanks since Nicolas Batum. Dyson snugly fits the mold for the type of player that Portland has been trying to pair with Dame for a decade now.
With Dame and Ant featured in the backcourt, Daniels’s playmaking ability should be put to use early and often, and he should rack up plenty of assists finding those two elite snipers open behind the arc. Their ability to stretch the floor also takes the pressure off of Dyson to be an above-average shooter right away.

Whether the Blazers take him straight up with the seventh-overall selection or trade down to get him, he should be a perfect fit from day one in Rip City. There’s no doubt that Mike Schmitz would be happy.
