Toronto Raptors Receive: C Clint Capela, G/F Kevin Huerter, 2023 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2025 First-Round Pick (ATL)
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F/C Pascal Siakam
The Toronto Raptors improve their floor balance significantly with this deal. Adding draft capital in the process is a huge bonus.
Capela slots in as this group’s starting center from day one. He’ll offer the rebounding, pick-and-roll finishing, and rim protection this team was lacking last year. He’s a perfect low-usage, high-impact big man to complement Barnes.
Meanwhile, the Hawks had better hope this deal works out for them in the long-term. They’re parting with two first-round picks here to add Siakam. If either of those selections falls in the lottery, this deal looks bad for them in hindsight.
Still, they can’t afford to balk at the price. They’re adding an overqualified second option in Siakam. Nonetheless, the Raptors may prefer other players on their roster. If they see themselves as rebuilding, they may want a big man who’s closer to Barnes in age.
