Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
The Brooklyn Nets wouldn’t be the only team orchestrating a reunion here. This deal finds LeBron James and Kyrie Irving back together as well.
The Lakers will be gambling that their previously established chemistry will be an asset. They’d also be betting that James will be able to keep Irving accountable in a way that Durant wasn’t.
Of course, that’s a big gamble. Kyrie Irving is a grown man who will likely set his own priorities. Still, it’s worth noting that his most consistent time on the floor came as a member of the Cleveland Cavalier with James.
It’s also worth noting that the two won a championship together. Given Irving’s elite floor spacing, he’s clearly a better fit with James than Westbrook ever could be.

If the Lakers were able to convince the Nets to make this deal, they should be a better team in 2022-23. Assuming, of course, that Irving is ready to play.
