The Detroit Pistons have found themselves at the heart of a lot of rumors this NBA offseason. After finishing last season with the third-worst record in the league, they are looking to shake things up on the roster this offseason and bring in some talent which will eventually lead to some wins.

Detroit has some intriguing young players on the roster led by Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. His versatility makes building the roster around him a little easier because he can fill so many different roles on the team.

Along with Cunnigham, the team has keepers in Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart, first-round picks from the 2020 NBA Draft. Could they have another building block on their hands in the form of Marvin Bagley III?

The Pistons acquired Bagley from the Sacramento Kings last season and he did well in the Motor City. In 18 games, eight of which were starts, Bagley averaged 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 27.2 minutes per game.

LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: Detroit Pistons Widely Expected To Trade Jerami Grant

He made a good impression and now, according to Marc Stein on his Substack, the Pistons are hoping to continue this partnership despite some of the other rumors they have been involved with.

“Amid great anticipation regarding Detroit’s intentions with Jerami Grant (will he finally be traded?) and whether the Pistons will indeed pursue marquee free agents like Ayton or Dallas’ Jalen Brunson, league sources say that the Pistons have very strong interest in re-signing the recently acquired Marvin Bagley III. The former Sacramento King made a positive impression in his half-season in Motown.”

Marvin Bagley III was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, but things didn’t pan out in Sacramento as well as he or the team had hoped for. It isn’t Bagley’s fault that he was selected ahead of Luka Doncic, but it is something that will be tied for him throughout the rest of his basketball career.

But, he is now making the most of things with the Detroit Pistons. No longer burdened with the expectations of being the No. 2 pick to carry a franchise, he can find his niche in Detroit alongside other young players trying to bring that franchise back to prominence after a few down years.
