The Minnesota Timberwolves had a wonderful 2021-22 NBA season. They made the postseason for only the second time in 18 years and the first time since 2018, defeating the LA Clippers in the first game of the NBA Play-In Tournament and earning the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference.

They would go on to lose to the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies in six games, and their struggles to close out games eventually cost them. The Timberwolves blew numerous big leads, and despite how disappointing of an end that it was, the campaign was a successful one.

This offseason, the franchise has already made one big move this offseason. They brought Tim Connelly over from the Denver Nuggets, who was their president of basketball operations, to fill a similar role in Minnesota.

His first task with the franchise will be to help tweak the roster so that they can continue cementing their status as a playoff team. One player that they reportedly have their sights set on is Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks.

LATEST NBA NEWS AND TRADE RUMORS: Minnesota Timberwolves Shopping D’Angelo Russell Before NBA Draft

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Timberwolves are in the market for a veteran center. Looking for some frontcourt help makes sense, but it is a surprise that they are looking for help at center as that is where Karl-Anthony Towns is entrenched.

Is Minnesota going to deploy him more at the power forward spot, pairing him with a defensive-minded center such as Capela to do the dirty work on the interior? It would be hard to imagine the Timberwolves looking for a replacement and offering Towns in trade packages, as he is a franchise cornerstone with Anthony Edwards.

Given the contract extension that Clint Capela signed last offseason and his level of production, it is hard to imagine that Minnesota would be targeting him as a backup option. The plan could be to create a jumbo backcourt with some versatility, much like the Boston Celtics just found success doing with Al Horford and Robert Williams III.
