Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
The Phoenix Suns would have to accept this return. Ayton, by now, is the definition of a distressed asset. They’re at least getting something in return for him here.
It’s entirely possible that they’re getting something great. If we judge Randle strictly by his 2021-22 season, the Suns are getting fleeced here. On the other hand, if they get the 2020-21 version of Randle, this could work out in their favor.
After all, it would be fair to say that in 2020-21, Randle was a more dynamic playmaker than Ayton’s been in his career so far.
With Devin Booker and Chris Paul drawing defensive attention, he’ll have every opportunity to get his career back on track.

Meanwhile, the Suns get a first-round pick in exchange for Ayton here too. The Knicks will be working overtime to ensure that pick isn’t in the lottery, but they can only control so much. Without Randle, it’s hard to envision who will be the first option on this team in 2022-23.
With that in mind, is this deal really worthwhile for the Knicks?
