The Golden State Warriors pulled off an impressive NBA Finals run with no shortage of helpful supporting cast contributions. Among the key contributors was Kevon Looney, who is set to reach free agency during the offseason.
Looney managed to appear in all 82 of the Warriors’ regular season games and averaged 6.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. He provided plenty of timely contributions by doing the dirty work for the Warriors throughout their playoff run.
There will be plenty of teams interested in Looney’s services when he reaches free agency with the Warriors certainly being among them. He expressed his desire to remain in Golden State.
“I always want to be back here,” Looney said. “I want to come back and try to defend what we just won and be a part of something special again.”

The Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings are among interested suitors for Looney ahead of his free agency this offseason, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
“After playing a pivotal role in Golden State’s championship success, Kevon Looney’s forthcoming free agency will be monitored more closely than anyone might have imagined a month ago. Charlotte and Sacramento, soon to be coached by Golden State assistant Mike Brown, are among the teams said to be interested in signing Looney away from the Warriors, who spent nearly $350 million this season on salary and luxury tax for their championship roster.”

The Golden State Warriors hold a lot of confidence in the development of James Wiseman after selecting him No. 2 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. While he has a lot of talent, his inability to stay healthy makes it tough to move on from a dependable player like Kevon Looney.
There would be a risk for Kevon Looney to sign with a team like the Charlotte Hornets or Sacramento Kings. The benefit of feeding off of the shooting gravity of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson should be understated given the defense is often facing challenges staying in rotation.
