Detroit Pistons Receive: F Talen Horton-Tucker, G Kendrick Nunn, C Nerlens Noel, 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
New York Knicks Receive: F Jerami Grant
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Derrick Rose
This deal finds Detroit Pistons star Jerami Grant finding an unlikely new home.
Grant has been the subject of trade rumors all season. The New York Knicks are not typically tied to them. That may be because Julius Randle plays the same position.
Color us unconcerned. In a positionless league, there’s no reason to think Randle and Grant can’t co-exist. Randle can play the 5, and Grant can play the 3.
They also complement each other in several ways. Grant has the defensive versatility to cover for Randle’s shortcomings on that end. They’re also both capable of spacing the floor when the other is handling the ball. Combined, they’d give the Knicks one of the most dynamic forward tandems in the NBA.

Meanwhile, the Pistons receive appropriate compensation for Grant. In fact, two first-round picks in addition to Talen-Horton Tucker may qualify as a king’s ransom.
At the same time, the Los Angeles Lakers get their guy. This trade has the potential to benefit all parties involved. You can’t ask for much more than that.
