The Cleveland Cavaliers are entering the 2022 NBA offseason with some high hopes. They are way ahead of schedule based on the timeline that the organization seemed to be on as they looked to get things on track without LeBron James in the fold.
Not even the most optimistic of Cavaliers’ followers could have imagined how quickly things would come together. The team won 44 games during the 2021-22 season, the most in a season without LeBron James on the roster since the 1997-98 campaign.
They are heading in the right direction and this offseason they will have a chance to continue upgrading the roster around the foundational pieces they already have in place. They are one of the more surprising buyers, as they look to take the next step in their rebuild.
Cleveland made the NBA Play-In Tournament this year but was defeated by the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks. Next season, they should push to finish in the top-six and avoid the Play-In Tournament or at the very least, win and qualify for the seventh or eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
