Donovan Mitchell

The New York Knicks should be thinking as big as possible this offseason. The Utah Jazz has undergone turnover at every level of the organization. This offseason, it will be the roster that some changes are made to and the Knicks should try and take advantage.

Utah is going to split up their All-Star duo of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. While they would like to hold onto at least one of them, there is a possibility that both are moved. It has been reported that the Jazz will trade Gobert to appease Mitchell, but some NBA insiders believe it is only a matter of time until Mitchell requests a trade of his own.

Moving onto a bigger market is something that was mentioned and New York, the media capital of the world, would certainly suffice. Donovan Mitchell would be the star that the Knicks are desperate for on and off the court.

He has taken on more of a ball-handling and playmaking responsibility in recent seasons, which the Knicks certainly need. His scoring ability is what they really need, as Donovan Mitchell can get a bucket at any time.

While his defense has been underwhelming at times, he has immense potential on that end of the court. His defensive versatility, as he has a 6’10” wingspan despite being listed at only 6’1”, is something that intrigued teams when he came out of Louisville.

If there is a staff that can get it out of him, it is one led by Tom Thibodeau with Johnnie Bryant, someone Mitchell has a great relationship with, as an assistant.

The New York Knicks should be willing to make a deal that includes any player or asset outside of RJ Barrett. If they want to build a sustainable winner, Barrett has to remain on the team as the other building block. That could be a non-starter for the Jazz, but if Donovan Mitchell insists on going to New York, their hands could be tied.
