The Phoenix Suns had a surprisingly early exit from the 2022 NBA Postseason, as they were eliminated in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks. They lost the series in seven games, suffering an ugly loss at home that was one of the worst in postseason history.

The franchise will look to regroup this offseason and tweak the roster accordingly. A lot of attention has been given to what they will do with starting center Deandre Ayton, who looks to have one foot out the door already.

If the Suns do elect to not match an offer sheet that he signs, they will likely try and execute a sign-and-trade deal centered around him. That would be the only avenue to recouping any value as Phoenix does not possess cap space to sign a free agent to replace him.

While the Ayton saga rightfully dominates headlines, the team does have some other holes that they need to look into filling. One player who could remedy a lot of those issues is Eric Gordon. After seeing the Houston Rockets trade Christian Wood to the Mavericks, Gordon could be readily available as well.

As one former NBA executive pointed out to NBA Analysis Network, Gordon would be a perfect fit in Phoenix. His ability to play off of stars and create for himself would be ideal.

“Phoenix needs another shot creator. The Mavericks made it a point to take away Chris Paul’s short-range game in ball screens. They loaded up on Devin Booker as the series went on, too. When plays break down, Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges aren’t going to be enough. I have no doubt that Eric Gordon could have helped. He’s used to attacking off the catch playing next to stars and can initiate things himself when needed.”

There are a lot of contending teams that would love to add Gordon to the mix. The only real concern when it comes to him is his health, as he has missed a lot of time throughout his career. Last season alone he missed 25 games.

But, when he was on the court, he produced. Gordon knocked down 41.2 percent of his 3-point attempts last season, averaging 13.4 points per game to go along with 2.7 assists and 2.0 rebounds.

While he doesn’t possess the size as some of the other Suns’ players, Gordon can more than hold his own on the wing. Whatever he lacks on defense, he is more than capable of making up for with his shot creation, something the other players are lacking as the executive pointed out.

After seeing what the Dallas Mavericks acquired Christian Wood for, there is no reason that the Phoenix Suns shouldn’t make a call about Eric Gordon’s availability.
