Here, the Hawks manage to receive a decent win-now player and the seventh overall pick, while the Blazers get Collins without giving up an impact player. Everybody wins, right?

That depends on the Spurs’ evaluation of the day. If they see a prospect they really like, who’s likely to be available at 16th overall but probably won’t be at 20th overall, they may pounce on this opportunity.

It could be Tari Eason, the defensive ace wing/forward out of LSU. It could be Malaki Branham, the scoring guard out of Ohio State. Whoever the Spurs fancy, moving up four spots in the draft here could help them land them.

On the other hand, if the Spurs are a little less particular, this deal falls apart. They could reason that they can get better value for Richardson than the opportunity to move up four spots elsewhere. They’d need to have a specific target in mind for this to work.
