Pacers’ Malcolm Brogdon Remains Backup Plan For Knicks

The No. 1 thing on the to-do list for the New York Knicks this NBA offseason is to find a starting point guard. That is easier said than done, but it is the one thing that seems to be holding them back from taking that next step.

Last season, they thought the issue was resolved with Kemba Walker starting and Derrick Rose coming off the bench. Unfortunately, the point guard position turned into a mess, as Alec Burks logged more minutes at the spot than Walker or Rose, who combined to play in only 63 games.

Looking to avoid a repeat of that this upcoming season, New York will search high and low for a new player to run their offense. One player that has been linked to them recently is Malcolm Brogdon of the Indiana Pacers.

However, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report in his latest NBA intel, Brogdon isn’t the top option for New York. He is a contingency plan in case nothing else comes to fruition.

“The Knicks have also been linked to Brogdon in recent days by league personnel. New York is known to have interest in trading up from the No. 11 pick, with a perceived target of Purdue combo guard Jaden Ivey. But if New York doesn’t jump up the lottery order—league executives don’t forecast such a deal—and determines it is out of the running for free agent-to-be Jalen Brunson, Brogdon has been mentioned as one of several potential backup options for the Knicks to plug their hole at starting point guard.”

It should not come as a surprise that Brogdon is a backup plan for the New York Knicks. They are looking to avoid a repeat of last season when it comes to injuries at the position. Brogdon, skill set wise, would be an excellent addition, but he cannot be counted on to remain healthy.

Malcolm Brogdon missed 46 games for the Indiana Pacers last season and has missed at least 16 games in five consecutive seasons. He has played in at least 70 games only once in his career and it came during his rookie campaign.

When he is healthy, he would be a great fit. Alas, turning 30-years old in December and under contract through 2025, it is easy to understand why Brogdon isn’t the team’s first choice to fill the point guard void.
