The Los Angeles Lakers should be happy that they have checked something off of their to-do list already this NBA offseason. They named Darvin Ham as the new head coach, as he will be taking over for Frank Vogel, who was fired after three seasons.
However, now the hard work begins. Los Angeles will have their work cut out for them this offseason when it comes to upgrading their roster.
The Lakers fell woefully short of expectations this past season, going 33-49 and not even qualifying for the NBA Play-In Tournament. As a result, there has already been a lot of discussion about what moves the franchise could make.
While many people point to trade scenarios including Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis or LeBron James, deals including them are easier said than done. Their options are limited as they have only two contracts on their books that aren’t a max or veteran’s minimum.

Those two players and some future draft capital is likely the best the Lakers can do when it comes to building a trade package. It is unlikely that a team would trade anything of significance for that duo, but the Lakers will have to at least try.
