NBA Trade Rumors

Every year there are a few teams that look to move down or out of the first round of the NBA Draft. Whether it is because the team is looking to save some money or bring in an established player, there’s always some action near the bottom of the first round of contenders moving around. This year will be no different.

Two teams have already emerged that are looking to do that; the Western Conference Finals participants, the Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, both are looking to move out of the first round.

“The Dallas Mavericks, picking No. 26, and Golden State Warriors, picking No. 28, are motivated to find deals for their late-first round selections, sources told B/R. Dallas and Golden State have expensive rosters that feature players such as Brunson, Jordan Poole, and Andrew Wiggins who are due for paydays.

The Mavericks and Warriors are searching for opportunities to acquire future draft capital for those selections, sources said, in the event a coveted player on their boards doesn’t fall. Another possible outcome is that they will select international draft-and-stash players.”

This shouldn’t come as any surprise. The Dallas Mavericks’ main goal this offseason is to re-sign Jalen Brunson so they want to keep as much future money off the books as possible as things are going to get expensive. Looking to acquire an All-Star to pair with Luka Doncic as well, that pick could be used to sweeten a trade package.

On the verge of winning another NBA Championship, the Warriors have some work to do this offseason as well. Seven players are going to hit free agency, including five that have received rotation minutes during the NBA Finals.

That is where a lot of their attention will be this offseason and rightfully so. As long as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are on the roster, the Golden State Warriors will be in win-now mode. Sacrificing first-round picks is sometimes part of that, as the Warriors will be looking to save money wherever they can and bring in more established players to continue winning games.

Both teams looking for future NBA Draft capital will help them swing trades down the road or fill gaps in the roster should free agency not go as planned one year.
