Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: F Jerami Grant, C Kelly Olynyk, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 5 – DET), 2025 First-Round Pick (DET), 2027 First-Round Pick (DET)
Detroit Pistons Receive: G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
A lot of times, in any trade proposal, there’s a common caveat: Player X is not desirable for the team acquiring him. He’s just here to make the money work.
Typically, Player X isn’t as talented as Jerami Grant.
Regardless, that’s the situation in this case. Grant functions as the league’s most overqualified salary stuffer here. The Thunder could take the first half of the 2022-23 season to showcase Grant before trading him at the deadline. In all likelihood, they’d be looking for more first-round picks.
If that course of action appeals to the Thunder, this trade could otherwise work. The fifth overall pick and two future first-rounders are a serious haul of draft capital.

On the other hand, the Thunder may look to cut out the middle man by including a third team who already has an interest in Grant.
In that event, this next deal will suit them better.
