With the NBA offseason right around the corner, teams are already planning how they can take the next step. Two teams that will be intriguing to watch are the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers. Could they come together on a potential trade this offseason, potentially for veteran guard Josh Richardson?

One former NBA executive spoke to NBA Analysis Network about Richardson being an ideal trade target for the 76ers this offseason. Take a look at what he had to say about the subject:

“Danny Green is probably best being used in a trade for salary matching since his money is non-guaranteed. He’s going to be out a while with the ACL tear anyway. Josh Richardson is going to a few million more and would be a helpful 3-and-D next to their stars. He shot the ball a lot better last season after his rough year with Dallas. He’s already got history playing with Embiid too.”

Richardson has been a journeyman over the last few years. He has not been able to find a place to call home for the long-term. However, he’s still a very solid player on both ends of the court and the 76ers could become a home for him.

During the 2021-22 NBA season with the Spurs, Richardson ended up averaging 10.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Richardson shot 42.9 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 44.4 percent of his three-point attempts. Those numbers show why the 76ers should have interest.

As for the Spurs, they would likely be open to a trade at the right price. San Antonio is still very young and would likely move Richardson if they could add pieces that would fit their core.

All of that being said, there is a chance that the 76ers won’t have interest in a player like Josh Richardson. But, if they want to add a player that would provide defense and three-point shooting, this is a move they could make.

Expect to hear a ton of rumors surrounding both the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. Both teams need to make some moves and coming together on a Josh Richardson trade could make perfect sense for both parties.
