In the NBA, different organizations have different principles. In theory, every team wants to win the NBA championship. On the other hand, in practice, some teams are just happy to compete.
The Miami Heat are not one of those teams. This organization has had a championship-or-bust aura around it since its inception. By that standard, the 2021-22 season was a bust.
Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers seem to value the playoffs over the championship. Perhaps that’s harsh, but this team has never been one to make dramatic changes, even when they’re clearly short of contention.
