Toronto Raptors Receive: G/F Josh Richardson, C Jakob Poeltl, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 9 – SAS)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: F OG Anunoby
These two organizations share a rich recent history of making trades together. This deal continues that history.
The most significant example comes in 2019. The Spurs traded superstar Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected first-round pick. You know the history: the Raptors went on to win an NBA championship. The Spurs, to put it politely, did not.
At this year’s deadline, the two organizations struck another deal. The Raptors traded Goran Dragic and their 2022 First-Round Pick to the Spurs in exchange for Thaddeus Young. Realistically, it’s hard to say who won the deal, although we’d wager the Spurs are happy to have that draft selection.
This deal finds the two sides doing business again. Interestingly, it’s got Jakob Poeltl heading back to his original NBA home.
