Yes, they have several players who they’re paying a little above market value. Marcus Morris Sr. may be the most egregious example. It shouldn’t be controversial to say his $16 million annual contract is a little beyond his on-court production.
For that matter, Luke Kennard’s $14 million salary raised some eyebrows when he first signed his deal. Nonetheless, neither is a bad contract. Why?
They’re both perfect salary matches.

Swinging a trade for Mike Conley wouldn’t be impossible without those two deals on the books. There’s a lesson here. It may be that any contract under $30 million dollars is inherently not a bad contract. Either way, this deal works financially.
