You never know, right? Would the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers have a mutual interest in swapping big men? At first glance, this is not a trade most observers are expecting to see this summer.
Oftentimes, that means very little in the NBA.
The Lakers may lower their ceiling with this trade, but they raise their floor. Opinions on Gobert’s impact are mixed, but his dependability is undeniable. The Stifle Tower seldom misses games.
The same cannot be said for Davis. Unfortunately, injuries have limited his availability and effectiveness over the last two seasons. If he can get right, he could provide Donovan Mitchell with the bonafide second option he’s been missing while making up much of Gobert’s lost defensive impact.

Having said all that, this trade is imperfect. The Lakers may not see the benefit in acquiring a center who can’t play with Russell Westbrook. The next deal alleviates that concern.
