For years, NBA fans have said that Bradley Beal needed to request a trade from the Washington Wizards and take his talents elsewhere. His commitment to the franchise did not waver, as no trade request came as he wanted to help turn things around in the nation’s capital.
However, that resolve will be put to the test this offseason. Beal has a player option for the 2022-23 season which many believe he will decline. That will make him an unrestricted free agent, where other teams could pursue him.
Signs have pointed to Beal remaining with the Wizards, but you never know what will happen in free agency. All it takes is for one team to convince Beal that they are the right situation for him and can build a winner around him.
Rumors are nothing new to Beal, as he has been at the center of them for years now. At the end of the day, winning is all that is important to Beal. He touched on it during a recent interview, as his decision this offseason will be based solely on where he feels he can win on the court.
“I know what my decision will be based off of, and that’s gonna be where I feel like I can win,” Beal said. “That’s going to be my decision. If I feel like I can win in D.C., that’s what I’m gonna do, and I want people to respect that. You may or you may not, but I’m gonna work my a– off, and I’m gonna compete, and I wanna make this team better. If it’s elsewhere, it’s going to be the exact same commitment.”

Those comments certainly won’t make Wizards fans rest any easier, as he left open the possibility of leaving in free agency. Beal has spent his entire 10-year career with the Wizards and they are certainly hoping that relationship continues.
There have been reports saying that the Wizards are ready to pay whatever it takes to keep Beal in town. But, from the sounds of it, money isn’t the motivating factor for Beal when it comes to making a decision. It is finding the best situation for him when it comes to winning basketball games and competing for an NBA Championship.
