Denver Nuggets Receive: G Damian Lillard
Following this deal, the Blazers’ draft situation gets fairly…complicated. That’s not a bad thing.
This trade would give them the rights to the best pick between them, the Sixers and the Nuggets in 2024 and 2026. Granted, that’s most likely to be their own selection. Still, in the event of a disaster for either contending team, the Blazers could reap massive benefits.
Consider it a gamble. With that said, the added benefit of this deal is that it allows the Blazers to bottom out. That’d be an easier sell with their fanbase if they owned their own 2023 selection. Still, the Blazers could target 2024 to draft their next franchise player.
This deal feels unlikely. For that matter, all of these deals do. It seems apparent that both Lillard and the Blazers are committed to going down with their ship, for better or for worst.
