The New York Knicks underachieved significantly during the 2021-22 NBA season. After earning the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference the season before, they failed to even qualify for a play-in tournament appearance.

There was a lot of optimism surrounding the potential fit of Kemba Walker as the answer at the point guard position for the Knicks before the season began. It quickly unraveled and he was outright benched. Meanwhile, the defensive execution of the team slipped as a whole.

Perhaps most concerning of all was Julius Randle went from posting an All-NBA Second-Team campaign to being consistently in headlines for his on-court outbursts coupled with regressed play. When considering he signed a four-year, $117.1 million contract, it wasn’t what the Knicks wanted to see.

The focus for the Knicks will likely be to add win-now talents this offseason. They need to surround RJ Barrett and Randle with some cohesive contributors that can help bring the best out of their game.
