Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G Damian Lillard
In all likelihood, the Memphis Grizzlies will actually miss the veterans they’re sending out here. Ironically, the suddenly rebuilding Portland Trail Blazers will have no use for them.
Still, that wouldn’t likely be a hangup for the Grizzlies here. Steven Adams is a rim runner/rim protector. He’s a good one, but they’re among the most replaceable players in the NBA. The same could be said for Dillon Brooks as a 3-and-D archetype.
The Blazers are only taking on either to make the money work. On the other hand, they’ll be happy to welcome Ziare Williams and De’Anthony Melton into the fold. Each is under 25 and has good upside.
Still, this trade is mostly about the picks for Portland. On the other hand, if they’d prefer a more decorated young player, they might be able to land one in exchange for Lillard.
