Thibodeau innovated defensive schemes as a member of the Boston Celtics’ coaching staff in the early-to-mid-00s. It appears to be a lifelong obsession for the coach.
With all that said, he probably wasn’t happy with the Knicks’ defense in 2021-22. Their Defensive Rating of 111.31 ranked 22nd in the NBA. It’s safe to assume that Thibodeau would like to improve on that mark.
