With their season ending in a second-round playoff exit, the Milwaukee Bucks will be a team eager to make upgrades. Given that their championship core is still intact, they are sure to be back next season, ready to make a run at the NBA title.

For contending teams, building a proper supporting cast is everything. Bringing in the right kind of players can be easy, but keeping them long-term is the main challenge.

The Bucks saw this first hand after they acquired PJ Tucker in 2021, only for him to leave at the end of the season to sign with the Miami Heat.

Luckily for the Bucks, one of their best role players has no intentions of leaving anytime soon.

Marc Stein recently reported that Bobby Portis is expected to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks either on his player option or by signing a new deal in free agency.

“Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis can become a free agent this offseason if he bypasses a $4.6 million player option for 2022-23, but there is already tangible resignation from some interested teams that they won’t have any shot at luring Portis away from the Bucks. The expectation already in circulation is that Portis will re-sign with Milwaukee on a multi-year deal even if he does opt for free agency.”

Portis has been a fine addition to Milwaukee since joining the team back in 2020. This season, he averaged a career-high 14.6 points and 9.1 rebounds while starting in 59 games. The 27-year-old also shot an efficient 39.3% from beyond the arc on close to five attempts a night.

While a market would likely form for the floor-spacing big man, it seems Portis has found a home in Milwaukee. He has proven to be a good fit alongside Giannis and company, and his skillset gives them the flexibility to cause problems for opposing defenses.
