Making the Case: Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons will soon face a situation where they need to give Jerami Grant a long-term contract extension if they seek to have him as a member of their team for years to come.
Grant is signed through the 2022-23 season and will earn just a shade under $21 million. He will be seeking a bigger deal when his current contract expires. Given he will be 29-years-old next season, there’s a case to be made now is the time to make a trade.
The Boston Celtics do have some intriguing trade assets they can offer the Pistons to entice them into making a trade involving Grant. With Detroit’s desire to add a secondary ball-handler, Derrick White would be the main draw of a deal.
Other young players like Payton Pritchard and Aaron Nesmith could be deployed in roles with the Pistons as they continue to build around Cade Cunningham.
